Well my attempt to drill my buckets for my uni seals was a mess, leaks everywhere FFS, went and bought new pails and going to drill the holes in reverse, this makes the holes a little tighter. Trial and error, that’s how we learn

Sorry for your loss!!! Don't fret tho , some garden fabric and dirt and you got a outdoor tomater pail !!!!!

Use a hole saw and not paddle bits. Don’t push hard, let the boy do the cutting.

but reverse still ..... nice point on the paddle but I woulda never thought of that as a problem ... just assumed they didnt get big enough for a bulk head

I ruined a bunch of buckets myself, I learned the hard way lol

it happens , have you thought about just a larger rubber washer to make the seal? .... I messed up a $40 rez that was leaking just added another step up rubber washer to it to seal it

What's a funny is I went and bought a new rez but when I went to replace it, the first the one wasnt leaking after my other gaskets all sealed in LOL so now I have a spare yay

This is what I have. Worked great, no leaks.

When U use a hole Saw or spade bit make sure you have a back piece of wood to press on from the bucket side

no need on the hole saw , if you arbor it in forward , then reverse the drill the saw will burn through with no mess no fuss , thanks for the spade bit tip tho I'll pass that along to someone I'm sure:-)

To all you non - fitter/machinist people. When drilling plastic, copper, brass, cast iron. You need to modify the drill bit to have negative or zero rake. What this means is the cutting edge is at 90deg or less, so as not to bite into the material being drilled. Usually i grind a small flat using a bench grinder to achieve this. Same thing with holesaws though a bit harder to change the rake angle.

Make sure you’ve go a block of wood on the other side pressed firmly against the plastic.

I use a step drill it and it makes very nice holes. However the width of the plastic isn’t quite tight enough so I put duct tape over the hole and then make a hole in the tape with a razor. The grommet fits beautifully. Perfect thickness!

Use sandpaper to remove burs before putting uniseal or grommetll

I had some cheap thin buckets....I cut a 2 x 4 to fit inside the bucket where I wanted to drill the hole to help brace the area while I was drilling... that along with reversing the drill (hole saw) it worked very nicely...

I use a step bit for any hole in plastic I haven't had any issues. I've had a bucket, with a uniseal to a valve, that's had standing water in it for months and never a leak. But man is it a pain to push the pvc through. With a uniseal the pvc is what actually helps tighten the seal. If you were able to push the pvc in real easily, your hole was too big. I used dish soap to help get my pvc in the seal.

Don"t the uniseals come with a recommendation for the hole saw size?

I drill 1/4" smaller than pipe OD then soften the plastic with heat then push the pipe through. Perfect seal every time
